Meet Tess! We’re thrilled to have her joining the Blooma Postpartum Doula team. As a Blooma member and a familiar presence from the New Moms Group and more, she’s ready to jump right in with clients. We wanted to get to know Tess and give you the chance to as well. Keep reading!

Tell us a little about yourself:
I’m a first-time mom with a super laid back, extremely curious and as of recently crawling/standing 8.5 month old son named Owen. Motherhood has shown me a love I never knew was possible. I have two dogs – Calvin, a Golden Retriever, and Hobbes, a British Chocolate Lab. I enjoy spending time with my son and husband, gardening, hosting parties with my husband who does all of the cooking (especially Halloween!), and trying new fun/unique restaurants around the Twin Cities.

Fun facts: my sister is a professional ballet dancer with the National Ballet of Canada, and my younger sister was adopted from China, and my mom was adopted and found that she has four half-brothers thanks to my mother-in-law’s genealogy research and ancestry.com – wild because she was raised as an only child.

Share a little about your background with us!

  • I was a Sociology Major, Women Studies & French Minor – I have always loved learning about people/systems who are different from me and love helping others – especially other women.

  • Prior to becoming a postpartum doula, I was an account manager in the healthcare division of an employee recognition company and before this I worked in healthcare consulting.

  • In the summer during college, I worked at a domestic violence shelter for women and children. I learned so much about the cycle of violence and how abuse is so much more than just physical.

  • I lived in France for 4 months during college (with an amazing host family), where I taught English to French highschool students.

How did you first find Blooma?
A coworker at the time recommended Blooma for chiropractic services, and after having a prenatal massage and some chiropractic work done while pregnant I was hooked!

What’s your favorite thing about being a postpartum doula?
Watching the transformation new moms/families go through as their confidence as new parents grows. Being able to provide help to people who need it the most – new & growing families.

What is your role at Blooma?
I am a postpartum doula and lover of all things first-time mom related.

What are you most looking forward to with the Blooma community?
Building meaningful connections with women/moms/families in the community and learning more about such an important transitionary period in life.

If you could go anywhere in the world right now, where would it be?
I want to go to the Maldives and stay in those little private houses right on the ocean.

What is something that you learned about yourself over the past 20 months?
After becoming a mom, I’ve learned how important boundaries are, and that you should always trust your gut because it’s always right. Also, it’s never too late to start something new!

Anything else you want to share?
I love bringing people together.

I Don’t Want Kids, Is Blooma For Me?

For as long as I can remember, I have been telling friends, family, and strangers my wish to not have children. In high school, I even wrote 200 reasons not to have kids (how I wish I still had this list for comedic purposes). When
