What People Are Saying

Birth Photography FAQ

Your photographer will be present in the lead-up to the birth when things become active and stay until one to two hours postpartum.

When you hire us, we go on call for you right away. We communicate with our clients throughout pregnancy, during the planning session and in early labor so that there is continuous care and clear expectations about when you should invite us to your birth.

We’re with you for your whole journey!

Flash may be utilized in a limited fashion according to your preferences (most families say they don’t even notice it!). While it can enhance the light available for your portraits, it is your choice whether or not we use it.

As professional doulas and photographers, it’s our entire job to work with you to ensure we’re there when we need to be. Yet birth is unpredictable and it is not always possible given certain circumstances. If things move very quickly, we’ll be there as soon as possible and stay until we’ve done your story justice (typically a few hours postpartum).

Doulas and birth professionals are often allowed into operating rooms, but it depends on your birthing location. We will follow you everywhere we’re allowed to be to tell your story.

Meet Your Birth Photographer

Sarah Branion

Sarah Branion (she/her) captures the most profound moments in families’ lives as a Birth Photographer, bringing together her artistic vision with over a decade of birth experience as a doula since 2015. Sarah believes birth photography captures some of the most meaningful moments and details in a family’s life, and being witness to—then artfully and beautifully capturing—the birth of a child is the most moving experience she’s ever been a part of.

Sarah creates images you can hear and feel viscerally, shooting primarily in color with a deep love for black-and-white storytelling. Her lens focuses on the connections within families—between partners, between older siblings and their new baby sibling—while highlighting the intimate details of birth: the moments we want to remember and the extraordinary emotional highs and lows that make each birth story unique.

With more than ten years attending births, Sarah has an intuitive understanding of when pivotal moments are approaching, allowing her to capture authentic, unguarded emotions as they unfold. Her extensive background as a Certified Professional Labor & Postpartum Doula means she moves seamlessly through birth spaces, understanding the rhythm and flow of labor while remaining unobtrusive behind the camera.

Sarah offers flexible services to meet each family’s needs: birth photography as a standalone service, or her unique combination of birth photography paired with full doula support. This dual expertise allows her to provide both emotional and physical support while documenting your story—a rare combination in the birth world.

As an experienced Gestational Carrier herself, Sarah is passionate about supporting and photographing families growing through surrogacy and IVF, bringing deep personal understanding to these unique journeys. She specializes in capturing the complex emotions and connections that make these births particularly meaningful.

Currently mentored by renowned birth photographers Monet Nicole and Jenn Mason through the Birth Becomes You program, Sarah is committed to advancing her craft while maintaining the authentic, emotional storytelling that defines her work. Around Blooma, you can find her supporting families as both Birth Photographer and Doula, ensuring every family receives the personalized care and documentation their birth story deserves.

Kayla Roth

My approach as an IBCLC is rooted in compassion, empowerment, and a deep understanding of how birth experiences can impact a feeding journey.

Breast/chestfeeding can be beautiful, but it is a journey that comes with unique challenges. My own feeding journey required more equipment for a medically complex baby than I ever could have imagined. I see you if how you are feeding looks different than you hoped and I am here to support your goals.

I have worked as a nurse before, during, and after birth for over 10 years, have been a lactation counselor for 6 years and am a new IBCLC. I am continually learning about assessment of oral restrictions and how to be a resource for families when challenges arise in a world of information overload. I am a lactation and alternative health nerd and love to take in new information and research in my spare time.

I believe pregnancy and postpartum are sacred and it’s an honor to care for families in their homes. I am here to provide a safe space to navigate your feeding path.
